Self Care Guide
By Kiera D’Souza
Whether it be going on a walk, shopping, getting coffee, getting your nails done, or simply just watching Netflix, taking care of yourself is so crucial in order to achieve the best version of yourself. In saying this, here's a little self-care/self-help guide to help you when you need it!
Number 1: Don’t compare yourself to others
This one is probably one of the hardest ones to follow and is much easier said than done. It’s very easy to get tied up in the lives of others, especially with the prevalence of social media. However, comparing yourself to others only makes life harder. Remember that you are on your own path and that everyone is struggling in their own way. Focus on improving and bettering yourself rather than comparing your journey with others.
Number 2: Exercise/move your body
Though you might not realize it, exercising pumps endorphins in your body, boosting your overall mood. You don't necessarily need to go do a full-blown workout in a gym, even walking for 20 minutes can help lessen stress. Not only will you feel better mentally, but physically you will feel stronger. Put on your favorite playlist, grab your headphones and you're ready to go! Additionally, finding a workout buddy is always fun. Having someone to motivate you and hold you accountable can help establish working out into your daily routine.
Number 3: Surround yourself with good people
Make sure your friend circle or the people you surround yourself with are people you love. These are the people who directly impact your daily mood and overall well-being. If you are hanging out with people who make you feel bad about yourself, drop them. You don't need that type of toxicity. You want people who will constantly motivate you to become the best version of yourself.
Number 4: Appreciate the little things
Again, this is so much easier said than done. However, appreciating the little things in life automatically makes you so much more aware of the good moments in life. Instead of dwelling on bad situations, try to remind yourself of the great things life has provided for you. Cherish the little things and you will find yourself becoming more happy and content with life.
Number 5: Learn to love and be content with yourself
While some may disagree, in life you only have yourself. Of course, your family is there to support you, but there will be many times when you will only have yourself to lean on. So learning to become content with who you are is very important. Spend time learning what you love and what makes you happy. Don't rely on other people to always make you happy and secure.
